The ANRF-CRG project sponsored two-day national workshop on “Advanced Semiconductor Materials and Devices Technology (ASMDT-2026)” was successfully conducted at NIT Rourkela during February 2–3, 2026, by the Department of Physics and Astronomy in hybrid mode.
The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. K. Umamaheshwar Rao, Director, NIT Rourkela, in the presence of faculty members and participants from across the country. The programme was coordinated by Prof. Jyoti Prakash Kar, Convener, Head, Department of Physics and Astronomy, along with Prof. Suryanarayan Dash and Prof. Sarojalochan Samal as Co-Conveners. Under SSR activities, the event was open to faculty members, young researchers, industry professionals, UG/PG/PhD students, and witnessed enthusiastic involvement of around 350 participants from various academic and research institutions nationwide.
Over the two days, the workshop delivered in-depth technical sessions covering III-V semiconductors, nanomaterials and devices, sensors and detectors, MEMS, power and RF devices, and spintronics in line with India Semiconductor Mission (ISM). The academic programme featured expert lectures by Prof. Mahesh Kumar (IIT Jodhpur), Dr. Jitendra Singh (CEERI, Pilani), Prof. Sachindranath Das (Jadavpur University), Prof. Biplab Sarkar (IIT Roorkee), Dr. Shankar Dutta (SSPL, DRDO) and Prof. Nilamani Behera (IIT Bhubaneswar). Through lectures, visual demonstrations and data-driven discussions, the workshop provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of advanced semiconductor materials, characterization techniques and their relevance to modern-day applications, making the programme a valuable academic and research-oriented engagement.
