On this unfortunate day of credit card devaluations (mostly) I'm deciding between shutting down RewardMatrix vs going deeper and building the next iteration. Right now I'm trying to figure out how user behaviour is going to change with diminishing rewards. Are they going to give up, not finding it worth the hassle or are they going to optimise harder.
One thing I'm certain is that new people are going to find it less exciting to enter. The barrier for them is also going to increase due to increasing complexity. For example Burgundy to Marriott now has to go through ITC with 10K quarterly capping. This is after paying Rs. 35k in fees and maintaining 10L in savings.
The big rewards are getting cut or have a very high eligibility criteria. The small rewards, are they really worth the mental peace?
Build the next iteration that connects all the fragments in the credit card awareness and optimisation space or move ahead to building something else? Remember at the end of the day I need to monetise things that too without selling data. This space is already super niche.
