MyMacca’s points jump sparks loyalty value worries
McDonald’s Australia has increased the MyMacca’s points needed for a free medium coffee, with the redemption price rising from 3,500 to 6,000 points. The change took effect on May 28 and was confirmed by the company, while customers can still earn 100 points for every $1 spent through the app.
The rewards ladder has been reshaped, including a new 2,500-point entry tier and updated point levels across popular items like hash browns, McCafé drinks, nuggets, burgers, and desserts. McDonald’s says the program was “evolved” to preserve value and expand reward choices, but the report frames it as part of a wider trend where loyalty programs from brands like Coles, Woolworths, and Subway are being seen as offering less value over time.
