🐟 Meet the Round Goby! Ever heard of a fish that can spawn multiple times a season, outcompete native species, and eat invasive zebra mussels? Meet the Round Goby. The Round Goby is a small but mighty invasive fish that’s been shaking up the lake ecosystem and some inland waters since it first arrived in the Great Lakes in 1990. In this video our Aquatic Monitoring team gives us a close-up look at one of Ontario’s most notorious aquatic invaders. To prevent the spread of this invasive species, the Ontario government has banned the possession of live Round Goby and the use of Round Goby as a baitfish. Don’t put any live Round Goby fish into Ontario lakes, rivers or streams. 🎣 What a Catch, #HaltonHills! We had an incredible turnout at the Mayor's Fishing Derby this past Saturday! Over 200 enthusiastic anglers joined us for a fun-filled day by the water to cast their lines and help reel in the invasive Round Goby—a big step in protecting our local ecosystem. Thanks to everyone’s efforts, 35 Round Goby were successfully caught and removed from the lake. Every catch counts in keeping our waters healthy! 🏆 Prizes were won, memories were made, and the community came together for a great cause. A heartfelt thank you to @CVC_CA, @OFAH, our dedicated staff, supportive Councillors Garneau, Kindbom, Hilson, Albano, and Fogal, and all the amazing residents who came out to enjoy a day on the lake.
