Inactive or Transitioned Facilities/refineries 🇿🇦 Several major facilities that once imported crude have ceased refining operations:  SAPREF (South African Petroleum Refineries): Formerly the country's largest refinery in Durban (owned by BP and Shell), it was acquired by the state-owned Central Energy Fund (CEF) in 2024 for R1. It is currently being rebranded as the South African National Petroleum Company (SANPC) refinery with long-term plans for restoration and expansion, but it is not currently refining crude.  Enref (Engen Refinery): Located in Durban, this facility was permanently shut down following a 2020 fire. It has been converted into a fuel storage and import terminal for finished petroleum products rather than crude oil.  PetroSA (Mossel Bay): This gas-to-liquids (GTL) facility is currently mothballed due to a lack of domestic gas feedstock. 🇿🇦
