Hip # numbers increasing and will continue to do so due to an aging population. 50% of people with hip # have previously had a fragility #. Surely a need for Fracture Liaison Services #fls to be properly funded to reduce risk of hip # #scothip22
#scothip22 Hip fractures in Scotland will increase substantially soon - likely a similar picture in many other countries. We need to mitigate this through falls prevention, better bone health care, & other interventions. We also need to plan services accordingly. @EuanJHarris

#scothip22 National consensus statements and guidance are another function of the SHFA. Whilst not a standard therefore not measured in the audit, these provide an important tool to reduce unwarranted variation. #hipfracture #painmanagement @A_MacLullich

🦴 For every Β£1 spent on the Scottish Hip Fracture Audit, Β£12-13 is saved, using the metric of bed days alone. Probably a conservative estimate. ▢️ All healthcare systems should consider creating robust standards & audit for hip fracture care. @FF_Network #scothip22

#scothip22 WOW! talk about value, thanks @docfarrow confirming that economic analysis has revealed in excess of a tenfold return in terms of reduced bed day for every Β£ spent on the administration of the audit @KarenAdam13 @A_MacLullich

#SCOTHIP22 Adherence to the Scottish Hip Fracture Standards not only improves the quality of care but it saves money. Healthcare systems using the mechanism of audit to standards = highly cost effective overall.

#scothip22 Importantly, prior research shows that greater adherence to the Scottish Hip Fracture Standards is associated with better outcomes, including reduced mortality. @docfarrow
