THE DAY A STRANGER MADE ME QUESTION MY ENTIRE REAL ESTATE CAREER One of the worst days I have ever had in real estate happened at Novare Mall, Shoprite Sangotedo, Lagos. My team and I had gone prospecting. As we approached the mall, I noticed a man pushing a shopping cart towards his car. I saw an opportunity. I walked up to him and said: “Hello sir, my name is Joe, and I work with… I’d like to tell you about some properties…” Before I could finish my introduction, he cut me off. “Is this how you go about harassing people? If you don’t have anything to do with your life, will you get out of my face?” I froze. I had never felt so embarrassed, humiliated, and ashamed. I didn’t even enter the mall to continue prospecting with my team. I turned around and went straight home. On the way, I kept asking myself: “Am I sure real estate is for me?” “Maybe my mother was right. Maybe I should just get a real job.” That night, I couldn’t eat. I couldn’t stop replaying the incident in my head. The next day, during our team debrief, I poured out my heart to my team lead and told her I wasn’t sure I could continue in real estate. To my greatest surprise… She started laughing. To be continued… Lessons: 1. Sometimes, one person’s opinion of you is not a reflection of your value. 2. Rejection is often part of the price you pay for success. 3. Many people quit not because they are incapable, but because they experience one painful moment and assume it defines their future. 4. Every successful salesperson has a rejection story. Most people just don’t tell it. 5. The difference between those who succeed and those who don’t is often the decision to show up one more day. Have you ever had a moment that made you question your career or business journey? #RealEstateJourney #OvercomingRejection #SalesLessons #CareerChallenges

I lost $50,000 before the meeting even started. 💔 Not because of price. Not because of need. One gap in my message ended it instantly. Trust is fragile, stronger than money, weaker than doubt. That’s where deals rise or collapse. ⚡ #SalesLessons #TrustInBusiness

We lost $50,000 before the meeting even started. 💔 Not because of price. Not because of need. One inconsistency ended the conversation before it began. Trust makes or breaks every deal. And the smallest crack decides the outcome. ⚡ #SalesLessons #TrustInBusiness

What’s the biggest career mistake you made that turned out to be a blessing in disguise? Once upon a time, I left a toxic sales culture, where working 7 days a week was demanded and if you didn't respond to the organization's Whatsapp chat within 20 minutes when they wanted updated throughout the day, they were calling you and hunting you down like bounty hunters. I thought I was done with sales, and made the move to a consultant firm who sadly sold me a bill of goods. My excitement turned to horror as I realized there was no money in it and one of the senior partners actually stole a big lead I earned by social selling and claimed it was his whale. I actually asked for my old horrible job back and was denied. Thankfully, another opportunity came along thanks to a relationship I had made at the prior organization. And if I hadn't left, I could not have joined the new company, because the person who recruited me was not allowed to bring over any more people from that team. My "mistake" of leaving sales turned into a blessing as it led me another step on my journey that led me to where I am today. Without risk, there can be no reward. Some risks don't immediately pan out, but there's few things you could do in your career that spell true disaster unless you're just not a good person or teammate. The best "mistakes" are the ones that force you to grow. I thought I was making the biggest career mistake of my life. In reality, I was just breaking free from a cycle that wasn’t serving me. Sometimes, the door slamming shut behind you is the only way you’ll ever walk through the one that leads to your real future. If you never take a risk, you’ll never know what’s possible. What’s the biggest career mistake you made that turned out to be a blessing in disguise? Drop it in the comments—your story could inspire someone at a crossroads right now. ⬇️ #CareerGrowth #SalesLessons #Leadership #SuccessMindset #LessonsLearned #RiskAndReward #Motivation #ProfessionalGrowth #PersonalDevelopment

🎄 Life (and a 16-foot Colorado Blue Spruce) Has a Funny Way of Teaching Sales Lessons Never thought I'd spend Christmas stuck 12 feet up in a tree, but here we are. Let me tell you how my holiday timber mishap turned into a masterclass in B2B sales: Picture this: Me, armed with confidence and a chainsaw, attempting to fell what I thought was "just another Christmas tree" in the Colorado backcountry. Spoiler alert: The tree had other plans. Three key lessons emerged while dangling from those prickly branches: First, I drastically underestimated the complexity of the situation. Just like when we assume an enterprise deal is "straightforward" because we've "seen this before." That tree, like every major account, had its own ecosystem of challenges. Second, my tools weren't matched to the task. A basic chainsaw for a 16-footer? About as effective as trying to close a Fortune 500 deal with a starter deck and a prayer. Proper preparation and resources matter. Finally, I learned (the hard way) that sometimes you need to call in experts. After two hours of increasingly questionable decisions, a passing forest ranger showed me where I'd gone wrong in my approach – just like how bringing in a solutions engineer at the right time can save a complex deal. The irony? By the time I got down, it was technically Christmas morning. But like any good sales cycle, the story had a happy ending. The ranger helped me find a more suitable tree, and I gained some bruised ribs and fresh perspective. Remember: Whether you're cutting down trees or closing deals, respect the complexity, bring the right tools, and know when to ask for help. P.S. My family still hasn't let me live this down. At least now I can say it was "market research." #SalesLessons #Leadership #ChristmasAdventures #B2BSales
