Successfully concluded the one-week Advanced Training Course on “Isotope Hydrology” organized by the Hydrological Investigations Division of the National Institute of Hydrology jointly with BGS, UK, from May 11–15, 2026, with support from the UK Government. The course brought together scientists, researchers, academicians, and water professionals from across the country for intensive sessions on isotope techniques and their applications in water resources assessment and management. The program included expert lectures, hands-on training, laboratory demonstrations, and case studies covering stable isotopes, tritium, groundwater recharge, contamination assessment, and data interpretation. In the valedictory session, Dr. Gopal Krishan, Scientist E, presented the course report, and  Dr. SD Khobragade, Acting Director, Scientist G, and Head of the Hydrological Investigations Division,   highlighted the importance of isotope hydrology in addressing emerging challenges related to groundwater sustainability, climate variability, and integrated water resources management. Participants appreciated the interactive learning environment and practical exposure provided during the course. The certificates were distributed to the participants. The institute extends sincere thanks to all distinguished experts, resource persons, organizers, and participants for making the program a grand success and for strengthening collaborative efforts to advance isotope hydrology research and applications in India. #NIHRoorkee #IsotopeHydrology #WaterResources #Groundwater #Hydrology #CapacityBuilding #Research #ClimateChange #UKGovernment #TrainingProgramme #Hydrogeology #ScienceForWater

Heat isn’t just raising the temperature — it’s changing how rain behaves. 🌡️🌧️ Warmer air can mean heavier downpours and longer dry spells, increasing the chances of both floods and droughts in the same region. That’s why hydrological research is key to understanding these shifts and building climate-resilient water management for the future. 💧 #DidYouKnow #ClimateTalk #HydrologyFacts #WaterScience #ClimateImpact #RainfallChanges #FloodsAndDroughts #WaterMatters #NIHRoorkee #ScienceForWater 🌍💧 @DoWRRDGR_MoJS

Field activities were successfully carried out under the UK Government–supported collaborative study by the National Institute of Hydrology (NIH), India, and the British Geological Survey (BGS), UK. The joint team undertook the construction and installation of dedicated piezometers at selected sites to strengthen groundwater monitoring and scientific understanding of aquifer systems. Comprehensive sampling was conducted from the newly constructed piezometers as well as nearby existing borewells. The collected samples will be analyzed for a wide range of parameters including environmental isotopes, trace metals, major ions, and fluorescence signatures. These multi-tracer investigations will help in improving the understanding of groundwater recharge processes, flow dynamics, contamination pathways, and overall water quality. Such international scientific collaboration reflects a strong commitment towards advancing hydrogeological research, promoting evidence-based water resources management, and addressing emerging groundwater challenges through state-of-the-art techniques. #GroundwaterResearch #Hydrology #InternationalCollaboration #NIHIndia #BGS #WaterScience #AquiferStudies #IsotopeHydrology #WaterQuality #GroundwaterMonitoring #Hydrogeology #ScienceForWater #SustainableWater #WaterSecurity #ResearchCollaboration #EnvironmentalScience #Fieldwork #WaterManagement #JalShakti #UKIndiaPartnership @DoWRRDGR_MoJS

Globally, a staggering 1⃣/3⃣rd of all food produced goes uneaten (roughly 3 billion tonnes!)🗑️ As roughly 7⃣0⃣% of our water use is destined to farming, this equals wasting massive amounts of water: roughly 7⃣5⃣0⃣0⃣ cubic kilometers (nearly the annual flow of the Amazon River)!🤯 Halving food waste by 2030 is still possible - but only with urgent, coordinated action. We need stronger policies, smarter infrastructure & better data to cut losses. But above all: the change can start with YOU🫵 🔗 bit.ly/3Y0LkA3 #WaterCrisis #FoodWaste #ScienceForWater Image by freepik.com

🔬 #PFAS & Water Contamination: A Global Challenge 🌍💧 For 25 years, PFOS -a harmful “#foreverchemical”- has leaked into soil & water in Zwijndrecht, Belgium, creating Europe’s worst PFAS hotspot. These chemicals seep into groundwater & even contaminate tap water, posing serious risks to human health & ecosystems⚠️ With thousands of PFAS-contaminated sites worldwide, stricter regulations, scientific innovation and innovation are essential to protect drinking water & #publichealth. #PFAS #WaterQuality #ScienceForWater
