The unemployed guy who lives in my house is learning to drive in a @Tesla .
If you'd told me my kid would learn to drive in a car that doesn't need him to drive, I would've laughed.
We hit a busy intersection. He hesitated, then reached over and tapped the selfdrive button.
I told him he couldn't do that. That he needs to learn how to handle those situations himself. That he can't rely on the car.
He looked at me and said:
"Why? The technology isn't going away. If anything it keeps getting better. You're not teaching me to drive without ABS or traction control. You didn't teach me to crank the engine before starting. How is this any different?"
I had no answer.
I'm still thinking about it.

Yesterday I drove my @tesla 900 miles on FSD from Miami to Nashville and I realized it’s genuinely the better option.
I fly that route 2 to 3 times a month. Flights are never under $400. Most times $600. Sometimes $800.
Add Uber to and from both airports, or parking garage fees. Then factor in the delays, the cancellations, the security theater, the chaos, the guy next to you who hasn’t met deodorant yet.
On the other hand: I pack healthy snacks, press one button, and the car just goes.
I took calls. Replied to emails. FaceTimed my family. Ate without pulling over. Did everything I normally do on a travel day, except none of the stuff that makes travel days miserable.
My biggest concern going in was range and charging. Here’s what actually happened:
My bladder needed one extra stop the car didn’t even suggest. Most charging stops were under five minutes. Total cost for the whole trip was less than just the uber to the airport.
And this was the base model Y.
Now I’m thinking I should get something comfier and just make this the default.

My journey as a beginner, trying to run Sunnypilot UI in Dev Mode on my PC and create my own @comma_ai feature 🌘
Goal: Build a custom Night Mode (dim UI softer green lines red tint) for my comma 4.
What I did:
Installed Ubuntu 24.04 on my PC
Cloned my fork, ran full setup (scons, dependencies, Git LFS) Added strong local dev bypass in selfdrive/ui/ui.py
Tried every combo: --replay --demo --offroad, env vars (PASSIVE=1, SKIP_HW_CHECK=1, etc.)
Ran replay in one terminal UI in another
Created custom night_mode.png icon
Result: UI launches but gets stuck at “camera starting” screen no matter what. Replay works.
Anyone running Sunnypilot dev on Ubuntu 24.04 successfully? What’s the proper way to run the Raylib UI locally for UI development? I currently have broken my Comma 4 and it won't currently control my @Tesla correctly even after a factory reset.

Yes, I understand the point you made about companies that support Trump. However, Elon still remains the biggest threat to humanity, he uses money to buy power and has significantly more than anyone you mentioned.
You'd look better if you sold the damn thing, I'm sure you know that. Buy a Gravity for your family, the only way we work ourselves out of this mess with Elon is by supporting the competition expessially with investment.
You made an investment in Tesla. We know Tesla has better selfdrive (against Lucid that's it), and that's a convenience that I can live without like many others for the sake of fighting oligarchy.
