🛰️ Ensuring the quality of Earth observation data, from space to end users
🌍 Every day, Sentinel-1 radar data underpins a wide range of applications, from maritime surveillance and environmental monitoring to emergency response and climate research. Behind these operational services lies a key challenge: ensuring that data remains accurate, reliable and consistent throughout the satellite’s lifetime.
🔬 As part of the Sentinel-1 Mission Performance Cluster (MPC-S1) programme, CLS supports the European Space Agency (ESA) in the calibration, validation and quality control of the Sentinel-1 constellation. These activities are essential to monitor instrument performance, assess product quality, and ensure that users can confidently rely on Copernicus data.
📍 Last week, CLS shared its expertise with the international SAR community at EUSAR 2026, Europe’s leading conference on Synthetic Aperture Radar technologies and applications.
Our colleague Guillaume Hajduch, Head of Innovation and Expertise at CLS in Brest, France, presented work carried out by CLS on Sentinel-1 calibration, validation and quality monitoring.
This work is part of a strong European collaboration, conducted within a consortium bringing together
@DLR_en, Aresys,
@Ifremer_fr,
@NORCEresearch and
@oceandatalab, on behalf of
@esa.
This collective effort illustrates the strength of European expertise and cooperation in delivering high-quality, operational Earth observation data for a wide range of users.
🚀 We are proud to contribute to the long-term performance of one of the world’s most important Earth observation programmes and to share this expertise with both scientific and operational communities.
