Strategic Leadership at the Forefront of Policing
The National Police Service Sub-County Commanders Consultative Meeting is currently underway, focusing on vital strategic issues including technology, grassroots policing, and officer welfare. Key leaders from the Police service and the International Justice Mission (IJM) shared these insights:
Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service Kenya Police Service, Eliud Lagat: Emphasized that Sub-County Commanders are the "pivotal point" where the service meets the community, noting that the overall effectiveness of the NPS is ultimately measured at the sub-county level.
DIG Administration Police Service, Gilbert Masengeli:
Addressed the leadership of "Gen Z" officers, stating: "We should not approach this generation with frustration, but with understanding." He noted that modern officers seek leaders who reason, guide, inspire, and create purpose rather than relying solely on rank.
Vincent Chahale, Country Director, IJM Kenya:
Reaffirmed IJM’s unwavering support: "As long as NPS doors are open, the International Justice Mission will help the service succeed." He highlighted the NPS as a key partner in the criminal justice system, pledging continued cooperation in mental wellness and capacity building.
