The latest Episode of the Mariner's Mirror is now available! buff.ly/IMeKaod
Dr Sam Willis talks with Simon Stevens, curator of ship models & small boats at the Royal Museums in Greenwich, & Vince Gillen, Inverclyde historian and writer.#shippingline#maritimehistory
Permanent, yes. The chinese, f.ex. the shippingline Cosco but also carmakers were planning enormous investments in northern norwegian port city Kirkenes (close to our border with Russia), to build a containerport massively offloading Rotterdam. The huge ice-proof containerships would unload containers there and return east, as mediumsize containerships and smaller feeders handle distribution throughout Europe. The Norwegian government blocked the deals, amongst else because Cosco was blacklisted by USA (which btw is not going to build or invest anything in norway, except for eight new military bases. Just what we needed.).
A tragedy for northern Norway, which often has felt underprioritized, lagging behind in communications, infrastructure, investments.

If you're maintaining custom extensions, the latest POS UI Extensions release (2025-07) includes breaking changes ahead of version 10.7.0.
Here’s what changed:
Removed:
FormattedTextField
→ Still works in POS 10.6.0
→ Will break in 10.7.0
→ Replace with TextField
Deprecated values on the Icon component:
Size values like: minor, major, badge
→ Use: s, m, l, xl
Name values like: arrow, products, menu
→ Use: valid IconName enums
Logic fix:
pos.draft-order-details.block.render now only accepts BlockComponents
→ This enforces expected structure, so check any dynamic rendering logic
Updated or required props:
- posVersion (Session) – now required
- currency (Discount) – now optional
- variantId (ProductApi) – now required
New fields added to:
ReturnTransactionData, ShippingLine, BaseTransactionComplete, SearchBar, and Icon
Developer preview:
The new Storage API lets extensions store data locally on the POS device. Super useful for saving states between sessions!
This update is live as of POS app version 10.6.0.
Now’s the time to update your extensions before 10.7.0 rolls out and things start breaking.

The WDFC, a flagship initiative of the Government of India, is set to revolutionize freight transport, reduce emissions, and position India as a global trade leader. The JNPT-Vaitarna section will also eliminate 20 level crossings with the construction of Road Over Bridges (ROBs) and Road Under Bridges (RUBs), ensuring enhanced safety and operational efficiency.
As part of ongoing efforts, Praveen Kumar also inaugurated a Project Monitoring Cell at Taloja, Mumbai, aimed at ensuring real-time progress tracking and timely project delivery.
