While travelling through Similipal forest, I saw this bike ambulance at a rural hospital. Experiences like this reinforce a belief: talent is distributed far more evenly than opportunity. Across rural India, people innovate daily within severe constraints and serve their communities with remarkable dedication. Given the right support, many would outperform those who have had every advantage. Time to think.

These tigers are mostly reported in India, especially in places like Odisha’s Similipal region, where dense forests and isolation make rare genetics more likely to appear.

A pseudo-melanistic black tiger marking its territory in Similipal Tiger Reserve Its not a true black tiger. These are normal Bengal tigers with a mutation in the Taqpep gene that makes their black stripes super wide and spread out, covering most of the orange fur so they look almost black. Advantage? The mutation is totally harmless for health or hunting. In Similipal's dense dark forests it might even help with camouflage when stalking prey But the real weakness? The whole population comes from a tiny bottleneck years ago with just one male carrying this gene. Now isolated with no corridors to other reserves, heavy inbreeding has spread the mutation to nearly half the tigers. Its a sign of super low genetic diversity that could cause bigger problems down the line.
