Inauguration of Dockendale Training Academy ā A Major Step Towards Future-Ready Maritime Training
On April 24, 2025, Shri Shyam Jagannathan (IAS), The Director General of Shipping, inaugurated the Dockendale Training Academy, a cutting-edge maritime training facility aimed at enhancing Indiaās maritime education and capacity building. The Academy boasts advanced simulation technologies, including a 270-degree full mission deck simulator for real-life navigational training and an engine simulator focused on dual-fuel engines, supporting the shift to sustainable ship designs.
Other key features include steering simulators, high-voltage systems, LNG bunkering modules, ME & RT Flex engine simulators, and a Liquid Cargo Handling Simulator (LCHS), covering critical areas of maritime operations.
The inauguration was attended by senior officials from the Directorate, including Shri Deependra Singh Bisen (DDG - Training), Capt. (Dr.) Daniel Joseph (DDG - Crew), and Shri P.L. Muthu Assistant Director General of Shipping alongside leaders from MUR and Dockendale, such as Mr. Robert Muirhead (Group CEO, MUR), Capt. Vikrant Gusain (CEO, Dockendale), and Mr. Satish Kumar (COO).
In his address, Shri Shyam Jagannathan, IAS, Director General of Shipping, praised the Academy's emphasis on emerging skills like alternate fuel handling and ECDIS operations, aligning with Indiaās goal to become a global maritime hub. The Dockendale Training Academy is set to play a pivotal role in preparing Indiaās maritime workforce for the future.
