New winter storm season, but how did the 2024-25 season stack up? We've had 10 seasons of named storms now since 2015-16, with an average of 8.2 storms per year.
This season had 6 storms:
-Strongest was #StormÉowyn (January),
-Weakest was #StormConall (November),
-Highest gust (in Ireland) 184 km/h (Éowyn),
-Highest 10-minute mean (in Ireland) 142 km/h (Éowyn),
-Largest 24-hour pressure drop was 52 hPa (Éowyn),
-Lowest central pressure 940 hPa (#StormBert).
-Highest wave 20.2 m (Éowyn). Pending Floris data.

Windy says with the start of the METEOROLOGICAL autumn also comes the new storm names for the season ahead (last season we got to F for Floris), so I wonder how far we'll get this season
And before anyone starts whinging about the names, it's actually YOU guys that pick them. There's a competition every year for storm names from members of the public, then the winners get chosen by the Met Office, Met Éireann and KNMI (the Dutch guys) I believe
Amy was the most popular female name
Dave was a beloved husband nominated as he could snore louder than a storm
And Oscar was a cat remembered who liked the wind in his fur
