#StructureOverPolitics Period! This is the way to restore a governing partnership that mutually serve the best interests of the people again!
Can a return to federalism fix our politics? | Rep. Ken Ivory & Rep. Jennifer Dailey-Provost What if one of the biggest solutions to America’s political dysfunction isn’t electing better people, but restoring the principles of federalism? In this episode of Defending Ideas, @nicdunnutah speaks with two Utah representatives, Rep. Jennifer Dailey-Provost and Rep. @KenIvoryUT, about the constitutional balance between state and federal power. They discuss polarization, congressional dysfunction, the role of states as laboratories of democracy, and why shifting more decisions to local communities could improve both governance and civic trust.

Wonderful to see this emphasis from the Church on our rights and privileges secured by the U.S. Constitution! One important note, however, States are NOT subsidiaries to the national government but established as governing partners with the national government, each with distinct roles and responsibilities, and each supreme in their respectives spheres. (See, e.g. Federalist Nos. 39, 45, and 51). The Ninth Amendment of the Bill of Rights establishes the foundational principle that the People are sovereign. (The source of all governing power, and responsible for preserving the structure of their government). The Tenth Amendment of the Bill of Rights declares that all “powers not delegated to the national government by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the People” (depending on the allocation of powers in each State Constitution). The People self-govern, and preserve the limits, divisions, and balance of State-National governing powers in and through their States and the state agents (trustees/fiduciaries) they “hire” (elect), and can directly hold accountable. It is in our States that we enjoy the blessings of liberty, diversity, self-governing experience, accountability, and leveraged power to restrain and check the national government. When we understand this critical “divinely inspired fundamental” of federalism, as set forth by President Oaks, we understand and can practically exercise our self-governing power and responsibility…in as little as 5 minutes a week. iGovern.us @iGovernUS #FederalismMatters #StructureOverPolitics

On Constitution Day, let's reclaim the Founders' genius: a state-federal balance as a "double security to the rights of the People." Bipartisan op-ed urges ALL states to join Utah's National Federalism Initiative—educate, engage, elevate our compound republic! I've thoroughly enjoyed the work I've been involved in on the Federalism Commission. Last week during interim, we discussed jurisdiction over public lands in Utah and what states can do to assert their authority and jurisdictional rights. We also discussed the implementation of HB488 from the 2025 General Session, including the work we've done on the National Federalism Initiative. This initiative will include an annual federalism summit, outreach to other states, and planning for a national federalism commission of the states. I'm excited about the work we're doing for Utah to lead the nation on this issue! deseret.com/opinion/2025/05/… #NFIVoices #FederalismInAction #StructureOverPolitics
