🌏🤝 The ITUC participated in the Policy for Development Asia-Pacific Meeting in Jakarta, Indonesia, alongside a delegation from ITUC-Asia Pacific, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Nepal. 🗣️ The delegation brought forward the priorities of trade unions and workers, emphasizing that decent jobs must remain at the heart of development, the Global Gateway, and Just Transition initiatives across the region. ⚡ During the discussions, Rekson Silaban (KSBSI) highlighted the challenges faced by workers and trade unions under Indonesia’s Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP). He stressed that, despite the significant impact on workers, trade unions have not been meaningfully involved in the process. 📢 Trade unions called for: ✅ Meaningful social dialogue and public participation in the design and implementation of the Global Gateway, with trade unions and civil society organizations fully included. ✅ A stronger social dimension in #JustTransition policies, with funding for training, worker engagement, and community participation—not only business-driven approaches. ✅ A united front between trade unions and civil society organizations to advance a truly just transition. ✊ A Just Transition can only succeed when workers have a seat at the table. @itucasiapacific @Info_KSBSI #TimeFor8

🚨From promises to progress: it’s time to deliver! 🌍At the 2026 ECOSOC Forum on Financing for Development, global leaders came together to build momentum on the Sevilla commitments. But with shrinking aid and growing reliance on private finance, critical gaps remain. 👷‍♀️Decent jobs, workers’ rights, gender equality, and responsible business conduct must not be sidelined. Development should serve people—not just profits. ✅There are some encouraging steps forward, from new debt cooperation tools 🤝 to stronger national follow-up. But ambition now needs to turn into real action. 📢 We need urgency, accountability, and meaningful investment in social protection and fair economies. The time to deliver is now! #TimeFor8 🔗 ituc-csi.org/ITUC-statement-…

👏New Labour Law in Somalia for the first time in 52 years! The Federation of Somali Trade Unions - FESTU played a major role in this historic win for workers after years of intense advocacy. Somalia has officially unveiled its reformed labour law, marking the first comprehensive and progressive reform of the previous law in 52 years. The launch, organised by @SomaliaMolsa, brought together the government, trade unions under the umbrella of @festusomalia and employers led by the Somali Chamber of Commerce and Industry in a strong display of tripartite cooperation and social dialogue. The new law, collectively agreed upon by the government, employers and trade unions with the support of the @ILO, strengthens the protection of workers’ rights and aligns with the Provisional Constitution of Somalia and international labour standards, while reflecting years of sustained trade union advocacy, said Nasra Haji Ahmed, Deputy President of @festusomalia, speaking on behalf of trade unions at the launch ceremony. This reform marks a major step toward decent work, fairness and social justice throughout the country, and FESTU called for its effective implementation and enforcement to ensure the protection of the rights of workers.
