Somalia has officially unveiled its reformed labour law, marking the first comprehensive and progressive reform of the previous law in 52 years. The launch, organised by
@SomaliaMolsa, brought together the government, trade unions under the umbrella of
@festusomalia and employers led by the Somali Chamber of Commerce and Industry in a strong display of tripartite cooperation and social dialogue.
The new law, collectively agreed upon by the government, employers and trade unions with the support of the
@ILO, strengthens the protection of workers’ rights and aligns with the Provisional Constitution of Somalia and international labour standards, while reflecting years of sustained trade union advocacy, said Nasra Haji Ahmed, Deputy President of
@festusomalia, speaking on behalf of trade unions at the launch ceremony.
This reform marks a major step toward decent work, fairness and social justice throughout the country, and FESTU called for its effective implementation and enforcement to ensure the protection of the rights of workers.
