火星の衛星「フォボス」からサンプルを地球へ持ち帰ること。世界初。
火星衛星は、
「火星から生まれた天体」なのか、
それとも「他からやってきた小惑星」なのか。
実はまだよく分かっていません。
サンプルを直接調べることで、
私たちが住む太陽系に
どのようにして生命が存在できる環境が生まれたのか。
水や有機物はどこからやってきたのか。
その起源に迫ろうとしています。
もしかするとフォボス自身が、水を運んできた存在かもしれません。
火星の周りを回るこの小さな天体が、
太陽系や生命についての大きな謎を解く手がかりに。
そして将来、
人類が火星へ向かうとき、
MMXの技術は大きな意味を持つことになるでしょう。
