Donald Trump has obtained a commitment from America’s top tech companies, including Amazon, Google, Meta, Microsoft, OpenAI, Oracle, and xAI, to ensure that new data centers will not raise electricity prices for residential consumers.
Under the “Ratepayer Protection Pledge,” these companies agreed to cover all costs of new power generation for their centers, protecting households from rate hikes and even potentially lowering bills by selling excess power back to the grid. This approach contrasts with proposals to ban new data centers, which could halt job growth and construction in key sectors. Trump has long advocated letting AI companies become power providers, and this pledge marks a major step toward that vision while keeping energy affordable for Americans.

Navigating the AI Minefield: A United Front for Election Integrity
As the digital age accelerates, the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and electoral processes has emerged as a critical battleground for democracy.
In a landmark move, leading tech giants—including OpenAI, Google, Meta, Microsoft, TikTok, and Adobe—have forged an alliance under the "Tech Accord to Combat Deceptive Use of AI in 2024 Elections."
This initiative is a response to growing concerns about AI's potential to disrupt elections through the generation of misleading content, including deepfakes of political candidates.
The accord represents a commitment to joint efforts in detecting AI-generated disinformation and enhancing transparency regarding mitigation strategies. Despite the tech industry's history of regulatory challenges, this pledge underscores a proactive stance against AI's deceptive capabilities.
However, this initiative has been met with skepticism from civil society groups, who argue that voluntary commitments fall short of addressing the magnitude of the threat AI poses to democratic integrity. They call for more stringent measures, including robust content moderation and human oversight.
As AI continues to evolve, the dialogue between tech firms, lawmakers, and civil society will be crucial in shaping a framework that safeguards elections from digital manipulation, balancing innovation with accountability.

All the firms that did the "Techpledge" are doing right by it but the pledge wasn't about changing the experiences of underrepresented folks it was about what leadership at the firms was comfortable doing. It'd be wrong to ask for accountability when that wasnt part of the deal.
Chatted with @JaredCWiener about the @TechTownPDX "Techpledge" he helped me understand more about the undertaking but also reaffirmed my view that it should be abolished for something new, built on awareness, analysis, action & accountability. These pillars @CultivatedSense
Before I go to bed, I need to get this out. 48 hours ago I spoke out about the @TechTownPDX "techpledge". I hoped for a public dialog about intentions vs. impact and the centering of whiteness at firms like @puppetize. It felt right, firms have been making public statements...
Jared we have to do something. Ive gotten over a dozen DMs over the last 24 hours from women and PoC at Techpledge companies who are struggling mightily and feel like there's nothing they can do.
... the techpledge in its current form doesn't do this. I think creating an assessment would be a great way for businesses to take a critical look at their business in ways they probably never have.
