Anthropic has officially filed to go public
We've spent the better part of two years building on top of Claude in various forms, including research at TheoryLab, and client work at Privateers, that lives or dies on how much we trust the model and toolset underneath it.
So this is one thing we are following with keen interest.
The numbers are genuinely staggering. $47B run-rate revenue, up from $10B last year.
A $965B valuation that now sits above OpenAI. (Who would have guessed a year ago!)
Founded in 2021 by a handful of people who walked out of a rival lab over where it was headed. And five years later they're racing OpenAI and SpaceX to the public markets in what analysts are calling the floodgates opening.
Impressive! But also..
Anthropic is the company that built its entire identity on "safety first." The whole pitch was patience, getting it right over getting it first. An IPO doesn't kill that, but it does introduce a new boss into the room. The quarterly earnings call.
Public markets don't reward "we slowed down to be careful."
They reward the line going up.
I am crossing my fingers that a safety-led mission survives contact with a shareholder base that wants the chart on that filing envelope to keep bending skyward.
I'm rooting for them to prove you can do both.
