#retrocomputing #Borland #TurboPascal #Macintosh #apple #retrosoftware #retrocomputingmx

My cousin had one of these or C64 - to be honest I don’t remember - but it was so fascinating. And I can’t remember if I have ever written anything in BASIC, I remember TurboPascal 😍

Not a website but a game. I was like 14-15. Me and cousin were already into gaming. Dad got me a thick book about Turbo Pascal (the yellow one). I said to my cousin "I know some english I have this book, we will make our own game by tomorrow" 😅 After 3 hours we had like a line on screen. I couldn't even show a bitmap on screen let alone 3d models. After few days we had 16 colors (NOT 16 million, just 16 colors in total) and super slow animation. No forums, nobody to ask for assistance, internet was expensive like hell and pretty much no one had it. Then I went onto a venture with another book "computer graphics in assembler" or something like that. Spent 2-3 years with asm, learned tons about perf and how things works. Finally got something moving on screen, mouse control, bitmaps, animations and all in 256 colors which was sweet. Then lost it all because I gave my hdd to a dude that bricked the drive. No backups of course as shit was expensive. Then I went back to TurboPascal as I didn't felt like re-creating all the asm libs I had. It turned out that you can use TurboPascal with inline asm, which gave you speed when you needed and ease of use for 95% of the other code. Kids don't know these days how easy it is now to create something.

。 #TurboPascal #レトロPC

wow! good old times! ironically, I started in the x86 world with an x86 emulator running in the Amiga 500, so I tested my 1st x86 asm codes (like the video), before switch to TurboPascal, TurboC and later 32-bit DJGPP! 🔥

Thanks @ahejlsberg TurboPascal was my first language Great memories. I went assembler as I found out that "graphics" was super slow in TurboPascal. After 2-3 years of work gone by HDD failure I went back to TurboPascal because I realised it's much quicker to re-write it that way with some ASM inserts here and there. Performance was also there once I started to address memory in bulk instead of using setPixel in a loop. Thanks again.

Generally, I find “flash mobs” kind of silly, but this one is just too good. So nostalgic! I spent an inordinately stupid amount of time programming in TurboPascal…
If we had TurboCodex in 1986...
