From Rejection Emails to a Life-Changing Opportunity
Chijioke stared at the cracked ceiling, listening to the distant hum of generators and the occasional honk of a keke speeding past his window. It was 2:47 AM, and the night felt heavier than usual. His laptop screen cast a dull glow on his tired face, the cursor blinking as if daring him to quit. But he wouldn’t. Not now.
Three months ago, life had backed him into a corner. Another rejection email. Another “We’ll get back to you.” His mother’s voice still echoed in his head: "Chijioke, what next?" He had no answer, only the quiet dread of slipping into the same cycle that had swallowed so many before him.
So, he decided to fight back.
By day, he was answering calls in a cramped office, smiling through the frustration of customers who never seemed satisfied. By night, he was someone else entirely, his fingers moving restlessly across his worn-out keyboard, learning, practicing, failing, trying again. Sleep was a luxury he couldn’t afford.
His friends thought he was wasting time. “Na only you dey hustle?” they’d joke, dragging him out on weekends. But he had no interest in spending money he didn’t have. Instead, he watched YouTube tutorials, joined online communities, and applied for gigs he wasn’t even sure he could land.
The first breakthrough came in small ways, a friend referring him for a gig, a late-night breakthrough on a stubborn project, a random Twitter post leading to a connection he never expected. He wasn’t rich yet. He wasn’t even stable. But for the first time, he felt control slipping back into his hands.
As he leaned back, stretching his stiff fingers, an email notification popped up. His breath caught.
"We’ve reviewed your work and would love to schedule an interview."
Chijioke stared at the screen, chest tightening. Maybe, just maybe, this was the moment everything changed.
Nothing worth having comes easy. Stay focused, stay dedicated, and let your hard work do the talking. Have a good week ahead!
