My advice; the next AAW ship for the RN should be the same weapons and sensors as the Type45, with a more reliable and affordable propulsion system, plus the Harpoon.
That will require a new hull form, but should not require expensive and risky development of weapons or sensors

new japani cruiser design . our largest ships P15B tend to be around 17.5m beam, ddg worldwide are in 20-21 range. (horizon, type45, ddg51)
so our VLS arrays are narrower and that aft array with helicopter spaces on either side-not possible in our design 1/2

13 Frigates is better than 5. But it’s woefully short of the number needed.
It also ignores the huge shortfall in the RFA fleet, so much of the Type45 & Submarine fleet’s in/pending M&R and the people, training & ammunition needed to make them a deterrent.
It’s beyond a joke.

🚢 HMS Duncan is back in action! Outbound from Portsmouth this afternoon after completing her maintenance period.
She’s heading out to link up with @HMSPWLS (HMS Prince of Wales) for the various stages of Operation FIRECREST later this year.

That’s if our enemies decide to take the most direct route, however launching drones, cruise & ballistic missiles from any other threat access would show how vulnerable we are. Hoping for a updated Type45 on FOST or doing @NATO Steadfast 🎯 to provide cover isn’t a great plan
