Pacific Island countries are strengthening efforts to respond to the growing impacts of climate change on tuna stocks, economies, and livelihoods, supported by a new Advanced Warning System designed to help countries prepare for climate-driven tuna redistribution. Development of the Advanced Warning System is being supported through the Green Climate Fund Regional Tuna Programme (GCF RTP) under Component B of FP259, which aims to strengthen resilience to climate change impacts on tuna fisheries across the Pacific. 🚨 For years, families living near Mpilo Hospital woke up to ash-covered homes, thick smoke and choking fumes from medical waste burning. Today, residents say a new high-capacity incinerator is changing that. “This initiative is helping accelerate the kind of progress Zimbabwe needs in meeting its National Health Strategy and development goals,” says @UNDPZimbabwe representative Dr @AyodeleOdusola. The new facility at Mpilo Hospital can safely incinerate 250kg of medical waste per hour while reducing harmful emissions and improving healthcare waste management across southern Zimbabwe.
