UNDERSTANDING DISABILITY: Week 6 of our Series (now called Aditus Potens AF™) is on: Thursday 11th June 7–9pm Last week’s session on the difference between NHS and social care was really insightful, thank you to everyone who joined! This week we’re looking at the practical reality that follows on directly from last week: Gaps between NHS and social care → Where do people fall through the cracks? We’ll clearly break down: • The most common interface gaps where NHS healthcare ends and social care support is supposed to begin • How these cracks appear differently across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland • Real-world examples • Why these gaps matter so much for disabled people and families • Practical, evidence-based ways the system could close the cracks (with costs, viability and likely impact) Expect straight facts, clear explanations, the latest 2025/26 data, practical examples, and open discussion, clarity on where the hand-overs actually break down and what could realistically fix them. Format: Online X Space (link will be set up on Thursday so it can be recorded with comments enabled) Drop a comment below if you have any specific questions or areas you’d like covered. Looking forward to another strong and useful conversation. #UnderstandingDisability #AditusPotensAF

UNDERSTANDING DISABILITY: Week 4 of our #AccessAble Series is on Thursday 28th May 7–9pm Last week’s session on the Equality Act and legal protections was excellent, thank you to everyone who joined and contributed to such a clear and useful discussion on the issues in Northern Ireland and Disability as a Protected Characteristic not being sufficient to meet needs. This week we’re looking at the different types of disability: Types of disability: physical, sensory, cognitive, and mental health → Why do some conditions get taken more seriously than others? We’ll clearly break down: • Real UK prevalence figures for each category (with latest 2023/24–2025 data) • Specific conditions, numbers for children, and how they differ across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland • Age, sex and ethnicity patterns for each type • Societal attitudes and the “hierarchy of deservingness” • Funding realities and the surge in invisible/chronic conditions • How we strike the right balance when resources are limited and the most severely disabled risk being short-changed Expect straight facts, detailed stats, practical examples, and open discussion, no slogans, just clarity on what the data actually shows. Format: Online X Space (link will be set up on Thursday so it can be recorded with comments enabled) Drop a comment below if you have any specific questions or areas you’d like covered. UNDERSTANDING DISABILITY: Week 3 of our #AccessAble Series is on Thursday 21st May 7–9pm Last week’s session on the Medical vs Social Model was brilliant, so much great feedback, thank you to everyone who joined and contributed to such a thoughtful discussion. This week we’re moving into the legal side: Legal definitions in the UK (Equality Act basics) → What protections exist, and where do they fall short? We’ll clearly break down: • The Disability Discrimination Act 1995 and The key changes in the Equality Act 2010 (including the legal definition of disability) • Section 20 the all-important duty to make reasonable adjustments • How effective the law has been in practice since 2010 • The differences in Northern Ireland (which still largely operates under the old DDA) • Realistic ways the law could be improved (or what should replace it) Expect straight facts, practical examples, and open discussion no slogans, just clarity on what the law actually does and where it falls short. UNDERSTANDING DISABILITY: Week 2 of our #AccessAble Series is on Thursday 14th May 7–9pm Last Wednesday’s opening session was genuinely brilliant; thank you to everyone who joined and made the space so thoughtful and engaging. This week we’re diving into one of the most important frameworks in disability studies: Medical Model vs Social Model of Disability → Is the problem located in the person… or in the environment? We’ll unpack the core differences between these two models, look at how thinking has evolved over time, additional models and explore why these shifts matter so much, for how we design societies, workplaces, education, and relationships. Expect open discussion, real-world examples, and space for your questions and reflections. Whether you joined Week 1 or are just jumping in this week, everyone is warmly welcome. Format: Online X Space (link will be set up on Thursday, as this ensures the space can be recorded and has a comments section) Drop a comment below if you have any questions. Just tried asking where the back of the queue is to get my drink. Repeated myself twice. Can hear people chatting but no one answers. It's okay, I might be blind, but talking to me isn't contagious! Just need to know if you're the last in the queue. Yes or no will do!
