✨ Celebrating Global Intergenerational Week! Over the last two days, we had the privilege of hosting experts from six different European countries in the fields of sociology, healthy ageing, silver economy, and intergenerational relationships during our #UnifyingGenerations #Hackathon. The calibre of collaborations and contributions were truly inspiring. Our many conversations and insights revolved around the three core recommendations from the Unifying Generations report: ⚪ Changing perceptions to communicate a more realistic narrative of the positive, unifying role of older people. ⚪ Improving digital skills to reduce isolation and ensure even greater intergenerational cohesion. ⚪ Encouraging mentoring opportunities for older people to pass on their knowledge, experience, and skills. Our aim? To develop a roadmap that encourages collaboration among stakeholders —from businesses and associations to cities and governments— for stronger intergenerational solidarity. In 2023, the #UnifyingGenerations initiative was launched in three additional European countries: Spain, Germany, and Italy. The initiative is a first step in the journey towards changing the perception about the senior population and supporting intergenerational solidarity. Older people play a major role in society, especially when it comes to volunteering #UnifyingGenerations

🤲 Volunteering is a great way to give back to the community, learn new skills, and meet new people. The #UnifyingGenerations report has highlighted the significant social contributions of the third generation (people over 65) in terms of caring for others, volunteering, and providing support inside and outside of the family. This generation volunteers in sports clubs, associations, local communities, or charities. For example, over 50% of the respondents from the Unifying Generations survey in Ireland 🇮🇪 say they do some form of volunteering.
