The government has launched the initial phase of a road rehabilitation programme to upgrade 14 rural and regional roads in the Kalutara District under the Integrated Road Investment Program (iRoad), Minister of Health and Mass Media Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said. He noted that work on four main roads in the Agalawatta, Matugama and Bandaragama areas was officially launched on Saturday (13) as part of the project, which is funded jointly by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Sri Lankan government. The overall programme, covering Kalutara and Colombo districts, is valued at over Rs. 1,340 million and will upgrade more than 39 kilometres of roads. It includes carpet surfacing as well as drainage and culvert improvements, with completion targeted before June 2027. The project also includes a one-year maintenance period after construction. Jayatissa also said he attended the launch of development work on several roads in the district, including the Horakandamulla road in Matugama (Rs. 25 million), the Rerukana Samaranayakapura road in Bandaragama (Rs. 42 million), and the Kanaththagoda road in Horana (Rs. 81 million), all under the same programme.
