We launched the Urban Reforms Collective (#URC) earlier this week on the 33rd anniversary of the 74th Amendment according constitutional status to the Urban Local-Self Governments i.e. the 3rd tier in our democracy - the municipalities or city governments. Leading organisations working in the domains of urban development, governance, citizen participation, equity, gender, e-gov, environment, decentralisation and so on, came together from across Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Chennai and from different parts of the country with one purpose - to expedite reforms in urban governance to ensure better liveability for citizens. The Collective particularly intends to work closely and constructively with the political leadership and governments in designing and implementing better urban laws and policies in an accelerated manner. The sharp purpose of the Collective is elegantly captured in the Mumbai Declaration issued on the occasion.
