India woke up to a massive tragedy as a Learjet 45 aircraft crashed during landing at Baramati airport, killing all five people on board, including Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. The ill-fated aircraft, registered as VT-SSK and operated by VSR Ventures Pvt. Ltd., was flying from Mumbai to Baramati when it crash-landed at around 8:45 am.
According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), there were no survivors. The flight was operated by Pilot-in-Command Capt Sahil Madan and Co-Pilot Capt Yash, while Ajit Pawar was travelling with his Personal Security Officer and an attendant.
The tragic incident has sent shockwaves across Maharashtra and the nation, prompting immediate response from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who contacted Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to assess the situation. A detailed investigation has been ordered to ascertain the exact cause of the crash, focusing on technical, operational, and environmental factors.
The loss of a sitting Deputy Chief Minister along with the entire crew and accompanying staff marks one of the most devastating aviation tragedies involving a senior political leader in India in recent years.
