🔬 JUST PUBLISHED: A comprehensive systematic review & meta-analysis on Optic Nerve Sheath Fenestration (ONSF) for Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension in @ASIDEJournals
The analysis of 19 studies with 1,159 patients evaluates efficacy & safety factors affecting outcomes.
Key findings:
Visual acuity improvement: 34.5% (95% CI: 31.8-37.3%)
Visual field improvement: 69.4% (95% CI: 65.9-72.7%)
Optic disc swelling resolution: 90.9% (95% CI: 87.4-93.5%)
Overall complication rate: only 9% (95% CI: 5-16%)
Significant geographic variations: US centers showed better papilledema resolution (97.3% vs 76.5%)
Surgical approach matters: Medial transconjunctival showed lower complications (7.7% vs 13.2%)
Experience is crucial: Centers with 30 procedures demonstrated significantly better outcomes & safety profiles
