Pioneers = Academic Honors
This spring, more than 1,250 Vol State students earned academic honors, and many earned more than one distinction.
That means balancing classes, work, and life while achieving a 3.75 GPA or higher.
366 earned both Dean’s List and Honor Roll
135 earned both Merit List and Honor Roll
No matter the path, this is what commitment looks like.
We’re proud of you. ⭐👏

We’re so excited to launch our newest cohort of healthcare students, pinned this spring in Medical Laboratory Technology, Physical Therapist Assistant, Radiologic Technology, and Nursing. This moment isn’t just a ceremony—it’s the start of their journey to show up for our communities with real skill, compassion, and purpose.
These students have already shown resilience and heart, and their pins reflect the impact they’re ready to make. As they step into the field, they’re helping strengthen the health and well‑being of Middle Tennessee and the Upper Cumberland.
We’re incredibly proud of how Vol State students are stepping up to meet healthcare needs and care for the people who make our region what it is. The future of healthcare is in good hands. 🤲 🩺

Today was one of those days you don’t forget. The bleachers were full of cheering families and friends leaning forward with phones raised. More than 475 graduates walked across the stage, the largest commencement class in Vol State history.
This moment belonged to our students. Many balanced work, family, and late‑night studying. Many wondered if they’d make it. Every single one of them is moving forward with meaning and purpose. Some are transferring to continue their education, some are stepping into high‑demand careers, some are serving in healthcare or public service, and many are building stronger families, workplaces, and communities right here at home.
As President Dr. Wendi Tostenson shared: “You are prepared. You are capable. And you are needed.”
To the Class of 2026: you didn’t reach this milestone alone, and you won’t leave it that way either. You are part of the Vol State family. We will always be proud of you and excited to see how you carry this moment forward into the world.

The comments are somehow even worse than I expected.
An analogous event would be the Lazarus VolState which is 314 miles across TN. Two divisions - crewed and screwed. Assuming screwed, the universe of successful finishers shrinks pretty quickly. VolState doesn’t attract the “best of the best” so the level of athlete probably not wildly superior, but VolStaters hugely experienced generally which is hugely beneficial in multidays. Can take a look at some data from 2025 and come up with some better assessments -
