Very encouraging to see this. I hope these scarce breeding waders get the protection they need, because they are so important for biodiversity.

Guess it's an Alpina that looks big in a flock of Schinzii. Female Dunlin have longer beaks so female is a good shout.

Any suggestions on this long-billed dunlin among a flock of regulars at Rosscarbery today? I like the spotted sandpiper underparts. Female alpina maybe? @Waderworld1 @waderquest @WaderStudy @GrahamFAppleton

Bar-tailed godwits summer and winter plumages. I love them both, but you don't often get such a beauty down here in South Cork. @Waderworld1 @waderquest @WaderStudy @vwsg_web @wader

Snipe ๐Ÿฃ with @NestingUpNorth today in the Northern Pennines, we estimate she would have started incubation around the 29th of March to the 1st of April, lovely to see new life ๐Ÿ˜ @waderquest @_BTO @WaderStudy @_BTO

No, different habitat equals different predators, to be honest all waders do best on managed land, often upland areas, this is an upland area but the gulls seem to be growing in numbers and quartering the ground for an easy meal.

If this is whatโ€™s happening to the nests of cryptic wader species then itโ€™s no wonder other more obvious GNBโ€™s are struggling ๐Ÿ˜•

Two predated Woodcock and one Snipe found today, top suspects were Gulls as we observed several floating low over the fields ๐Ÿ˜ข no other predators noted today but itโ€™s possible it could have been something else. @waderquest @WaderStudy @DBC_Woodcock23

Two clutches of Woodcock monitored today in Northumberland with @NestingUpNorth not a tree for miles, we are finding probably a lot more birds are now nesting outside woodland than in woods. @DBC_Woodcock23 @waderquest @WaderStudy @_BTO

There were an unusually large number of Red Knot at Mahachai, Gulf of Thailand, recently which gave me the opportunity to photograph them in flight @waderquest #BirdsSeenIn2026 #birdphotography #birding @WaderStudy
