I was a game modder in 1998, cutting my teeth with WorldCraft, what later became Hammer Editor after discovering the game's SDK on the disc.
Back then there were all kinds of neat little things hidden away for the people who looked. I still make Half-Life Maps today. Though I never release them, they're merely creative exercises for me, one map I did release was a small pumping station at the end of Ings Road in Arksey.
Because there were plenty of random buildings and cargo containers a person could use for cover, it made for great 1v1 deathmatch gameplay in HL2DM.
But yeah, back to the point. Lack of internet everywhere did wonders for us as kids, and kids that are reading this, because I know there's at least on person getting this thread in their For You feed, I don't pay for a blue checkmark because I think it looks nice next to my name.
Losing access to social media is not the end of the world, you're wasting your childhood as it is by doomscrolling YouTube anyway, and besides, you and I both know how a VPN works.
Heck, You can get around PornHub's age verification process by simply opening the site in a TOR browser, and anyone who had an ICT lesson in the early aughts knew that one kid that could get around the school's webfilter...
...I even disabled the one at Don Valley and crippled the school's network for two weeks from sheer bandwidth load just so Brett could play pornographic flash games based on Gilligan's Island (why that exists, I don't know, but Rule 34 is Rule 34 for a reason)
