Bridging Care with Commitment:
@IITKgp Launches Mental Health & Well-Being Policy
IIT Kharagpur recently marked a significant milestone by launching its Mental Health and Well-Being Policy on World Health Day. This landmark initiative reflects a progressive shift from conventional frameworks to a deeply operational, action-oriented approach, embedding mental health support into the everyday fabric of campus life.
At the core of this policy is the SETU (Support, Empathy, Transformation & Upliftment) initiative, envisioned as a cohesive, student-centric ecosystem that prioritises early intervention, accessibility, and sustained well-being. By recognising mental health as fundamental to academic engagement and holistic development, the Institute reinforces the principle that student welfare is a shared institutional responsibility.
The policy was formally launched by Prof. Suman Chakraborty, Director IIT Kharagpur, in the presence of Prof. Partha P. Chakrabarti, former Director, IIT KGP; Prof. Manas Kumar Mandal, Advisor, SETU; Prof. Somesh Kumar, Dean, Faculty; Prof. Arun Chakraborty, Dean, Student Wellbeing; and Capt. Amit Jain, Registrar. The event also witnessed the participation of institute counsellors, faculty members, staff, and students, underscoring a collective commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive campus environment.
Through this initiative, IIT Kharagpur continues to strengthen its vision of building a resilient, empathetic, and future-ready academic community.
