😬 i mean they came to be around 2011, which was 3 or 4 years after google got guido to do the equivalent in python for appengine, pioneering PaaS itself. by the time v8 isolates became a thing i was no longer interested in language specific approaches and was why i worked with solomon to create a linux container primitive.
but no im talking about the per process/tab isolation that was a key feature of chrome when it came out in 2008. i think the tech even had a name, i remembering seeing it in the source. and yes it wasnt general, but wasm changed that.
in terms of breadth of arbitrary untrusted code now possible in it, and how well it has protected >70% of worldwide, arbitrary end user browser host environments for over 15 years... i think its doing The Best and people dont even think about it
