The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at NIT Rourkela inaugurated a Five-Day Faculty Development Program/Student Workshop on “Signal and Image Processing in Indian Radar Establishments and Future Development”. The programme will run from 23rd February to 27th February 2026.
The inaugural session was graced by Prof. Ashok Kumar Turuk, Dean (Academics); Prof. Swadesh Kumar Pratihar, Dean (SRICCE); Prof. Poonam Singh, Professor and Head, Department of ECE; and Prof. Rohan Dhiman, Registrar. The workshop is being conducted under the Chairmanship of Prof. Sukadev Meher, with Dr. Lakshi Prosad Roy and Dr. Jogesh Chandra Dash serving as Coordinators.
The inaugural session emphasised on the growing importance of advanced radar technologies in national development, defence applications, meteorology, remote sensing, mining and atmospheric sciences. This FDP aims to create deeper academic and research engagement in radar signal and image processing while strengthening awareness about Indian radar establishments and future technological directions.
A major highlight of this hybrid workshop is the hands-on laboratory sessions for three hours daily (total 15 hours), enabling participants to work directly with radar system components, data acquisition techniques, and signal interpretation tools. The programme has attracted more than 150 participants from faculty members, research scholars, and students from various institutions, indutries reflecting the growing academic interest in advanced radar technologies and signal processing towards AI & ML . The 5-day programme is also structured to provide future research and career opportunities to participants.
The workshop is sponsored by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) , co-sponsored by Mahanadi Coalfield Limited (MCL), Coal India Limited, and technically sponsored by the IEEE Rourkela Subsection, IEEE Kolkata Subsection, IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society, and IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society.
