Firstview is 180 miles from Denver. That means it probably took them 10 days from seeing the mountains to getting there

No you can't Firstview, CO is where you can barely see Pikes Peak so there's 0 shot you're seeing them further east than that unless you have elevation.

The mountains are tall, though, so that extends the visual range. Firstview, CO is named such as that's the first spot the pioneers spotted Pikes Peak so you can see them from at least that point.

Genuinely fun fact! There is a place in Colorado (not Kansas, and definitely not eastern Kansas) that's called Firstview, for geographic reasons that ought to be pretty obvious

Correct. In fact if you take Highway 40 from Kansas into Colorado there is a tiny town called Firstview where you have the very first faint view of the Rockies. It’s in Eastern Colorado.
