I almost bought a float center in 2024 but backed out because of the state of the economy and the operational cost. The float industry has been in a free fall since 2020 and only a handful of operators remain going strong since the boom of 2012. I was talking to a guy about the cost of quality Epsom salt the other day and why most float centers are charging 75$ or more on average for an hour in the tank. I was paying to float in 2023-2025 as I traveled across the country when had time and money to float. I would have floated more but I’m not paying 90$ for an hour in the tank, which to my surprise, a lot of float centers were trying to charge (even in small markets). If me, a hardcore champion of floating isn’t floating anymore, I can understand why a lot of these places are failing. Floating is actually a hard sell and if it’s too expensive you even push away your core audience. Times are tight for most people right now and it’s hard to justify that cost. I owned a float center for a few years and it is a very challenging space to navigate on so many levels. Just really sad to see the state of the industry. I used to float twice a day but sadly I haven’t floated since I left Wisconsin. I am still trying to offer floating again to the public but have resigned myself to just owning my own private one for personal use. The benefits are tremendous and even more so when you can do it at least 2-3 times a week. I am still trying to crack this nut but for now the economics just don’t make sense. I still wholeheartedly recommend you give it a try! Look for deals and promotions. My current favorite float center is
@floatmadison. So if you’re in the Midwest tell Greg I sent you!
