My grandmother came to Brooklyn in 1952 with two suitcases and a head full of stories. Stories about the old country. About the crossing. About her mother, who she never saw again. About the first winter in New York when she didn't own a coat thick enough and survived anyway. She told them at the kitchen table, hands wrapped around coffee that was always too hot. Same stories, slightly different each time. Details shifting like memory does. I didn't write them down. I was young and stupid and thought she'd live forever. She didn't. Now there are AI tools that can "preserve" voices. Upload enough recordings and the machine learns to speak like your dead. Type a question and grandma answers from beyond the grave. I've thought about it. I have a few voicemails saved. Enough to maybe build something. But I don't think I will. Because her stories weren't data. They were alive. They changed because she changed. The details shifted because thats what memory does, breathes. An AI grandma would tell the same story the same way every time. Perfect. Consistent. Dead. The real one forgot parts. Added parts. Sometimes cried in the middle and had to stop. That wasn't a flaw. That was the whole point. Some things aren't meant to be preserved. They're meant to be remembered, imperfectly, painfully, humanly. Miss you, Grandma. Still don't own a coat thick enough. #Family #Immigration #Brooklyn #Memories #Grandma #Storytelling #AI #HumanMemory #NYC #Heritage

📘 Episode 1 — “Silent Awakening” 🌌【Scene 1: Hospital room — Sun awakens in bed】 — Narration (Lee) That morning, when Sun opened her eyes, the ceiling above looked exactly the same as always. Her body felt slightly heavy, her heart felt soft, her breathing was calm, and somehow the world felt unusually gentle. Yet, within that gentleness, there was a sense of something quietly… different. 🌌【Scene 2: Sun stands by the window, looking out into town】 When she pulled the curtain aside, the town looked like a world where only time had been left behind. The buildings, the wind, the blue sky— everything appeared normal, except for one thing: The presence of people had completely disappeared from the air. She wasn’t scared. Just quietly… curious. 🌌【Scene 3: Sun walks into the empty hallway of the hospital】 Sun slowly stepped out of her room. Even though there was no one to speak to, she felt no fear. Only the sound of her own footsteps continued forward, as if the entire world was in the middle of holding its breath. 🌌【Scene 4: Sun stands inside what seems to be the reception area】 On the desk rested a mug still warm, a ledger left open, and time itself paused mid-sentence. The world had not stopped. Nor had anything been erased. At the very moment Sun awakened, the world simply began a different choice. 🌌【Scene 5: Sun steps outside to the empty street】 When she pushed open the hospital doors, she found a town left untouched, beautiful, and completely without people. As her pink hair swayed in the wind, something invisible rippled— a thin, clear membrane wavering through the air. Sun did not know yet. That faint disturbance was the very boundary of the Cage — Kai expanding outward from her.

🧠 Your Brain Remembers What You're Not Even Paying Attention To 🔗 Find more research here: pubmed.ai/?utm_source=X&utm_… Surprising findings from human neuroscience: Even when we ignore something, our brain may still be actively holding onto it. 🔬 Researchers discovered that neurons in the medial temporal lobe continue firing for unattended memory items—hinting at a deeper layer of cognition. 🔹 This persistent activity suggests working memory is more distributed and dynamic than once thought. 🔹 It may explain how we suddenly recall forgotten details or connect memories to long-term learning. 🔹 It also opens up new views on cognitive flexibility and attentional control. Are we underestimating the brain’s silent, ongoing memory work? #HumanMemory #MTL #CognitiveFlexibility #NeuroscienceUpdate #NeuralOscillations #Neuropsychology #BrainFunction #ScienceOfAttention

Here's my conversation with @CharanRanganath, psychologist & neuroscientist at UC Davis, specializing in human memory. We talk about memory, imagination, deja vu, false memories, why we remember, why we forget, and a lot of other fascinating mysteries about the human mind. It's here on X in full, and is up on YouTube, Spotify, and everywhere else. Links in comment. #KaruthuKannayiram Confronting our fears, scars, and unresolved emotions and issues is the best way to deal with mental health problems. It will become a monster when you try to escape from it, and one day, it will eat you up fully. Subconscious and unconscious memories have a lot of influence on our behaviours. Give necessary attention to it and question your behaviours, and probably that's where we open up the magic box of solutions and resolutions. My first fiction book is available below and it explores solution to mental health problems scientifically and emotionally. Excerpt from the book... I should have shared this excerpt on Valentines Day. But we are still on a Valentines week 😀😀 "I looked into her eyes again. They were brighter than the high-beam headlights of the vehicles coming towards us from the other direction. That was when I understood why so many movie scenes talked about the power of women’s eyes. “Why do mornings dawn your words and glances move my days and nights? If we separate or get together, half of my soul is yours. Your joy and suffering are mine. You became my beginning and end...” I gave her a flying kiss, grinning happily. She came closer to me. I knew she was going to kiss me. There was a slight hesitation. When her warm breath fell on me, I could smell her and sensed a drop of sweat on my skin in an air-conditioned car at 2 AM. I could see the reason why people usually say that women are ‘hot.’ I knew that she had been drinking. But I still did not have the heart to stop her. Instead, I tried to go along the service lane and park the car. It was as if my dream from that morning was happening in real life. She cupped my chin in her hands and came close to my face." . . We don't know why it happens, when it happens, and how it happens, but everything happens for a reason!!! Twitter mutuals had a significant role in this journey. "There are certain moments in our lives we never know that it is the start of a journey that we haven't particularly planned out to happen. People have said to take time off from their routine to rediscover themselves. In my case, it is not rediscovery but the discovery. I didn't take time off, but the COVID lockdown triggered a thought of doing something different to keep up with the time. I naturally started to write short stories and kept pushing boundaries within and around me. It is always better to act on things and figure out a way to expand than dream about it and wait for a perfect situation to start. I acted on my inner thoughts and gave those thoughts momentum and belief. But if someone asks me whether there is any particular moment I realized I wanted to be a writer, I always wanted to be one, but I finally had the time to peek beyond the usual. Life's funny that way." - Aravind . . . .
