#LimitlessLearning happens when our classroom is powered by learners’ #identity inquiry. How does who we are inform our learning choices? How do we construct our self-understandings? How does our community support and affirm our developing identities?#IdentityCenteredLearning
Learning and inquiry are limitless!

#Staytuned on 15th Nov for the big reveal.
Sounds paradoxical, but #IdentityCenteredLearning is looking super big picture by zooming in on details. The small choices we make everyday as educators have a massive impact on Ss’ long-term #IdentityDevelopment. Are we viewing/assessing our choices through an #IdentityLens?
Beautiful! Hoping that there was an “s” on the end of “culture” to give space for multicultural students to explore, process, and share their entire multilayered and complex cultural identities. #IdentityCenteredLearning
Also, reminding Ss to get permission from their partner before sharing those thoughts. This shows respect and gives the source of the idea full control over disclosure (#IdentityCenteredLearning). Here’s an info graphic that breaks down the protocol: identitycentered.com/resourc…
#ICL101 It's not our job as educators to teach Ss about their identities (or what we think they are/should be). That's imposing identity. Ss must always be in the driver's seat of their own identity development and #IdentityCenteredLearning is ensuring they always hold the keys.
#ICL101 Centering identity does not mean compelling everyone to broadcast all about who they are. #IdentityCenteredLearning is ensuring that each student holds complete control over their identity, its establishment, and its disclosure. Do your students get complete control?
#ICL101 When the dust settles on our educational experience, what remains is a deeper understanding of who we are, who we want to become, and our place in a complex world-- i.e. our identities. #IdentityCenteredLearning centers on this core and designs education to support it.
#ICL101 is a series that will outline the core principles of the #IdentityCenteredLearning approach. First, the word #identity itself. It's always bigger and more complicated than we think it is. "Identity" is an expansive and ever-expanding term. Cast off reductive schema.
It was an honor to join Sadie Hollins on the @WISEducation podcast to discuss #IdentityCenteredLearning! Why is identity development important in education? What are we doing (or not doing yet) to support Ss’ identity development? What’s the bigger picture?
