On behalf of the Saskatchewan Federated Police Officers (SFPO), we are reflecting on the life of Jim Pratt—a man many of us have known and respected for decades. The loss of Jim is deeply personal to our membership; we were truly lucky to walk alongside him.
A proud member of the Muscowpetung Saulteaux Nation, Jim was a pioneer in Saskatchewan policing. In the early 1980s, he was part of the first group of First Nations members hired by the Regina Police Service, where he served for 25 years.
Jim was more than an officer; he was a mentor and a bridge-builder. Whether serving as a member of the RPS or spending 16 years at SaskPolytech instructing the Aboriginal Police Prep Program, Jim ensured Indigenous perspectives remained at the heart of the work.
He taught us to lead with humility and to live life to the fullest every day. His leadership will live on through the many officers he shaped.
Rest in peace, Jim. You will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
