Mr. Mayur Karmarkar, Managing Director of International Copper Association India (ICAI), visited #JNARDDC for an in-depth discussion on the development of the Vision Document for Circular Economy in Non-Ferrous Metals, with a special emphasis on copper. The document is being prepared by JNARDDC under the guidance of the Ministry of Mines, with PwC as the consulting partner. Discussions focused on the inception report by PwC, covering the copper value chain, downstream products, and the performance of India’s recycling industry. It was observed that, despite copper collection being largely informal, the sector operates efficiently with an impressive 95% recycling process efficiency, primarily via direct scrap melting. Mr. Karmarkar also shared insights from a joint study with the Fraunhofer Institute, Germany, showcasing a stock and flow model for copper at global and national levels. Dr. Anupam Agnihotri, Director, JNARDDC, along with the Recycling Promotion Division, participated in the meeting.
