As we are growing, we become aware of our habits. We can use friction with habits that don't serve us any longer. Say we want to eat less chips. If we leave the chips on the store shelf, it is harder for us to drive to the store to get them than if they are in our house. That is a way of adding friction.
The opposite of friction is flow. If we want to adopt the habit of reading in bed, we can make it easy by putting a book right next to our bed. Now, there is a flow to the new habit that makes it easy for us perform this action.
