A devastatingly sad piece of news that brought tears to my eyes.
At the age of 64, my dear friend Karin Sturm has passed away. She was an extraordinary person whom I had the great privilege of knowing.
Karin was a highly respected motorsport journalist, with deep expertise in the world of automotive engineering, as well as remarkable knowledge and experience in space exploration and rocket engineering. She was also, impressively, a close friend of Ayrton Senna, a friendship that even led her to learn Brazilian Portuguese remarkably well.
Her intelligence was truly exceptional, but so was her kindness. Karin was warm, generous, charismatic and deeply friendly. Whenever I reached out to her, she would always reply, always take the time to talk, and we remained connected through our shared passion for communicating the importance of aerospace engineering.
Her work was remarkable, including one of her books about the life of Ayrton Senna. She was still young, with so much more to do and so much more to give. Her passing, three weeks ago, came as an unexpected shock to her wide network of friends.
I am immensely saddened by this loss and by the deep pain of saying goodbye to a great friendship built over these past years.
With all my affection, gratitude and longing, I leave here my tribute to the wonderful Karin Sturm.
Rest in peace, my friend. May God be with you.
