I've always had very mixed experiences with the Christian Whitehead Sonic remakes. They're always unfaithful in the oddest, but most noticeable ways that bother specifically ME.
Like, the Springyard boss is just straight up broken, and it shocks me that it never got fixed.

Gets caught by Eggman and struggles underwater.
Bounces randomly in Springyard.
Blows up the Death Egg from a spaceship.
I love this ad, but it's a pretty terrible representation of what Sonic was supposed to be😂

as far back as sonic 1 just look at springyard zone starlight zone and scrap brain which had elements of realisim in their backgrounds

i really appreciate them making the levels more based around being in a ball and spindashing. green hill, starlight, and maaaayybbe springyard are really the only places that are more based in speed and the rest are moreso atypical platformers till S2-3

lore about South Island about it floating around mysteriously and being uninhabited can't be true. clearly has an existing population, springyard and a lot of the modern tech was built by eggman, but Starlight city is clearly populated area filled with civilization of some kind.
