I don’t like Donald Trump because he incited the attack on the United States Capitol.
Because he refused to accept his electoral defeat. Because he spent months alleging fraud without proof, without evidence, calling into question the institutions and democracy of the United States simply because he could not stand losing.
I don’t like Donald Trump because he is a convicted criminal on 34 felony counts.
I don’t like Donald Trump because, when he was a businessman, he was involved in scandals related to undocumented immigrants working for him under grueling conditions for miserably low wages.
I don’t like Donald Trump because he has spoken disparagingly about Hispanics. Because he has waged an unrelenting war against those immigrants.
I don’t like Donald Trump because he has hundreds of Cubans detained in ICE detention centers that are nothing more than prisons. Because there are Cubans who have spent months locked up without knowing what will happen to their lives, enduring the worst conditions. Feeling that their most basic rights are being violated, living behind bars without having committed a single crime.
I don’t like Donald Trump because he is breaking records for the deportation of Cubans. Because while many of those who support him celebrate it from the comfort of their homes, other Cubans are being separated from their families, expelled from the country, or imprisoned for months while awaiting an uncertain fate.
I don’t like Donald Trump because he calls dictators and killers such as Putin, Xi Jinping, and Kim Jong-un great leaders and wonderful people. Because he practically rolled out the red carpet for Putin. Because he always seems to have praise for autocrats, but almost always insults for democratic leaders.
I don’t like Donald Trump because he attacks any press outlet that opposes him. He threatens to shut down media organizations. He insults journalists who ask uncomfortable questions.
Because he labels anyone who does not align with his narrative a communist, traitor, or enemy.
I don’t like Donald Trump because he is a megalomaniac, egocentric, and narcissistic. Because everything revolves around him and his ego.
I don’t like Donald Trump because we are seeing statues, highways, airports, and public buildings bearing his name, feeding a personality cult that I never thought I would witness in the United States of America.
I don’t like Donald Trump because he still has not fully clarified everything related to the Epstein files.
He has mocked Congress and refuses to release the records.
I don’t like Donald Trump because he lied shamelessly during his election campaign. He spent four years mocking Biden. And after returning to power, he continues blaming Biden for everything.
I don’t like Donald Trump because he promised to end inflation, yet prices continue to hit people’s wallets hard. Because his foolish, protectionist tariffs end up being paid by ordinary citizens. Because there is nothing more anti-capitalist than manipulating markets while friends of those in power reap the benefits.
I don’t like Donald Trump because he is corrupt. He maintains obscene relationships with billionaires and monarchs while selling the story that he governs for the people.
I don’t like Donald Trump because he constantly fuels hatred, division, and polarization within the United States. Because he needs enemies in order to survive politically. Because he is always pitting US Americans against one another.
I don’t like Donald Trump because he lies. He lies shamelessly with a cynicism that reminds me of Fidel Castro.
Because out of every hundred statements, two hundred are lies.
I don’t like Donald Trump because he called our countries “shithole countries.” Because he has treated millions of people with contempt simply for being born south of the border.
I don’t like Donald Trump because he has already made it clear that he is more interested in Venezuela’s oil than in the freedom of Venezuelans. Because he has ended up making deals with dictatorships he promised to fight. Because he has shown that his principles last exactly until they collide with his interests.
I don’t like Donald Trump because he pardoned the criminals who stormed the Capitol. And as if that were not enough, he intends to compensate them with money taken from taxpayers’ pockets.
I don’t like Donald Trump because I cannot stand bullies, abusers, strongmen, or those who go through life pretending to be alpha males.
And that is why I don’t like Donald Trump.
And as for fanatical Trump supporters, I do not even want to say much about them. Because between Cuba’s Castro loyalists and Miami’s Trump loyalists, I often see exactly the same disease: blind worship of the leader, hypocrisy, ignorance, servility, the inability to question him, and the obsession with justifying absolutely everything the strongman does.
Because in the end, extremes begin to resemble each other far too much.
The flags, the colors, and the rhetoric may change.
But the fanaticism is the same.
And for me, if I had a Cuban Trump supporter and a Fidelista standing side by side, I would not know which one to save from disgrace…
Because they both are not worth a damn.
