With every kid up to number 6 it seemed like my brain kind of leveled up to seeing the new number as normal after a bit, but I think seven might just be more than I can subitize bc it’s given me a lot more moments of “wait do we have everyone?”

I'm always amused by "number sense" people substituting unnecessary additional operations that still require pure memorization (all pairs that add to 10) or another counting operation and an additional subtraction operation just to subitize for aesthetics. It's OK not to be scared by numbers greater than 5.

All tests are flawed and dependent on brain module development. Humans are time varying. Metaphysical concepts exceed simple mathematical computations. Any brain can be trained to add. All subitize. Symbolic knowledge is superior and rarer than mechanical computation.

We used to be a society where people would subitize artists by just by giving them a place to live, some money and tell them to do whatever they wanted. We should go back to that.

This week our Nursery children have been exploring Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. They have printed the night sky in Art. In Maths they have been using 'fast eyes to subitize' from 1 -3. The children have blown us away with how quickly they have picked this up! 🌟

Opposite of Microsoft = Macrohard! Grok: verb 1(transitive, slang) To have or to have acquired an intuitive understanding of; to know (something) without having to think (such as knowing the number of objects in a collection without needing to count them: see subitize). 2(transitive, slang) To fully and completely understand something in all its details and intricacies.

semantically, the 'Just' implies a low count of guys; I'd put it at the limit of where the average human can subitize (count how many things there are just by seeing it) which is 5.

We have been learning to subitize. We can say the number on a dice without counting the dots. We have also been challenging ourselves with two dice

I can't instinctively subitize in latent space, so five is just a metonym for "not that many", but the top five would probably be something like "ai takeover when?" -> "are llms real agi" "what to do about ai?" "I just don't think about it" "what if ai conscious?" "but what is consciousness" "so, where are you in your life?" ... "that's cool, that's cool" (to people significantly more popular than me) "hey, hi, I like your [blog/website/essays/etc.]"
