Sinn Féin keeps shouting #TimeForUnity while many young people are shouting #TimeToLeave. People can’t afford homes, wages are squeezed, waiting lists are endless, roads and services are crumbling north & south. Instead of slogans, answer the real questions: • What currency? • What tax system? • What happens healthcare/NHS? • State pensions? • Public sector pay? • Cost to taxpayers? • ….the list goes on. The Good Friday Agreement did not promise a border poll on demand for party campaigning. It set a legal threshold based on majority support. People wanted Sinn Féin to challenge the system. Many now see just another establishment party ignoring ordinary concerns. Less hashtags. More honesty. More answers.

Member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the African Union, the Arab League, the Organization of Turkic States, and the D-8 collectively represent a vast geopolitical space endowed with abundant natural resources above and below ground, large and youthful populations, and strategic positions along major global energy, trade, and transportation routes. Despite this considerable collective potential, the absence of a comprehensive and institutionalized common security and defense framework among these countries limits their ability to establish an effective system of collective deterrence against external interventions. Such a security architecture is essential for the protection of populations, the safeguarding of sacred and holy sites, the preservation of regional peace and stability, and the advancement of sustainable socio-economic development. Therefore, the establishment of a coordinated security and defense framework capable of strengthening strategic cooperation, ensuring collective security, and enhancing deterrence against external interventions should be urgently evaluated. #TimeForUnity #CollectiveDefense @OIC_OCI @Turkic_States @_AfricanUnion

Change is coming and the responsible course of action is to plan for it, prepare for it and shape it together. That was the message coming out of our ‘Another Ireland is Possible’ event in Armagh last week.  Our fantastic panel, Claire Mitchell, @KarenSethuraman, Davy Adams and @bjacollins, outlined in detail their vision for a better future and the need to plan for Irish unity.  A new and united Ireland can be a nation where all citizens and all communities are valued, where public services are strong, opportunities plentiful and one in which the full potential of our island and its people can be unlocked.  Some in the corridors of power in London and Dublin would have us believe that this debate wasn’t taking place. That nobody in the north is giving serious thought to what constitutional future is in their best interests.   That couldn’t be further from the truth. The debate on a new and united Ireland is live and growing. Unity gives us the opportunity to unlock the full economic, social and cultural potential of our island and our people. The Irish Government should listen to the diaspora and plan for Irish unity. I spent Easter in Toronto, Canada, commemorating our patriot dead and meeting with members of the Irish diaspora, Canadian trade unionists and Friends of Sinn Féin in Canada. Our diaspora has made an immense contribution to the peace and political processes on the island of Ireland and now looks to the future, with hope and optimism, as the debate on a new and united Ireland grows. Unfortunately we have a Government in Dublin and a Taoiseach who refuses to plan, prepare or even talk about Irish unity. They are failing to honour an essential element of the Good Friday Agreement and are failing to grasp the historic opportunity to unite Ireland and our people. This is a moment of great optimism and excitement. The discussions are happening now, the conversation is live all over Ireland and further afield.
