Never played the original UT, but I did play UT2003 a LOT!

At this point just rerelease UT2003 but with less arena shooter-y weapons and mechs, there would be no difference.

Nah, I hop in UT2003, grab my gun, and shoot you in the face. Battlefield has so many little features and things it just gets aggravating. Sure the skill ceiling on UT and quake were higher but they were much simpler to play.

this looks moreso like UT2003/4 (bless) and splinter cell chaos theory was a huge jump for 6th gen so was Unreal Championship 2 with UE2.5, shame it only had half a year until the x360 released

A bit less honestly, it is essentially a glorified UT2003 port. UC2 is just a completely different game that sits between UT2004 and UT3, with its own artstyle and all.

Marathon is niche and hardcore? LOL. Here's your clown shoes. UT2003 is harder than Marathon.

Personally I think UT2003 had the best gameplay (and I didn't care for vehicles in 2004), but I love all of the Unreal games.

Most of those were in UT2003. So ‘03 too

Hell yeah! UT2003 and UT2004 were amazing!
Unreal Tournament 2004 is now available for free. ...well, I mean, you probably could've grabbed a GOG offline installer out the back of a truck earlier, but NOW it's Official/Legal and has the in-development community patch built in for ongoing support. oldunreal.com/downloads/ut20…

I just want to take this chance to remind people that UT2003 existed, and was just awful. They swept it under the rug and did 2004.

I miss UT99 and the crazy variety of mods and mutators. IMO something was definitely lost in the transition to UT2003/2004 (although UE3 seemed to usher in the golden age of UE titles).
Did FPS games peak in the 90s? I guess the newer ones have better graphics, but do they really "feel" better in terms of gameplay and fun? Unreal Tournament (Epic Games, 1999) was one of the best of its kind. A favorite for our LAN sessions back in the day. Carrying a 21" mintor over to your friend's house felt a little less heavy when you knew you'd be playing Unreal later that day... Exellent and colorful graphics (even on PCs that weren't high end, like those you needed for Quake III Arena for example), great sound, and your typical capture the flag or deathmatches - I mean, what more did you need? Plenty of "Game of the Year" nominations (with some wins), the highest critcal acclaim, and massive sales numbers. I think we can all agree that Unreal Tournament belongs in the Hall of Fame of FPS games. Or maybe I am just getting old and gloryfing things from the past too much.

There's only one: Mafia. I'll strike through Hot Pursuit 2 (gets boring after a while), Vice City (has plot holes like GTA III, which they never fixed) and UT2003 (overshadowed by UT2004 two years later).

The Radeon 9600 had its graphics processor underclocked from 324 to 300 MHz, but the memory cranked up from 400 to 600 MHz, and it's actually quite good if you play stuff that doesn't need more than 64 MB VRAM (UT2003 and earlier stuff). It rivals a Geforce 4 Ti 4200.
