yes well I work in banking where RHEL is common or IBM zLinux, thats why I said if your project is serious and if you are planning to host the project somewhere to make money out of it - RHEL is good. Thats why its preferred for enterprise grade large infra deployments.
This does not mean Ubuntu is not good. But be careful with RHEL as it targets enterprise grade hardware so drivers may be a bit tricky. I havent used RHEL as a dual boot for a couple of years now, most modern laptops should ideally support it well. Do some reas
Já ouvi essa história meu patrão. Qdo trabalhei na grande azul, os brazukas tinham q entender do produto rodando em Windows, Linux, zLinux, reza a lenda que na gringa tinha um cara para cada plataforma.
The Temurin ones are all using the hotspot JVM (Even on AIX, pLinux and zLinux) IBM's OpenJ9 (badged Semeru as Nigel says) now uses the OpenJDK codebase but with hotspot ripped out of it and replaced with the OpenJ9 VM.

modern z runs just about everything, zLinux is a whole thing, unfortunately outside of IBM or a few specific mainframe instructors its a little harder to directly learn.
Basically a mainframe is one massive system that breaks things into LPARs and APARs, also zVM.
Another anecdote - in 2006 I was talking to a bank server MD, who told me a story that he asked his @IBM reps to put together a TCO comparison for zLinux, x86 Linux, and AIX, and got three different reports back, each claiming a different winner.
I was around in the very early days of zLinux. The issues were very funny! Favorite was multiple guests using a tape device driver.. bytes were little put on the tape in random chunks! Oops… multi-tenant Linux!
